The Quiet Power of Being Held
2025 - Ongoing
Oil and acrylic painting
United Kingdom
This series explores intimacy, friendship, and the deep emotional bonds between women. Moving away from public violence and external threat, the paintings turn towards interior spaces: beds and living rooms, moments of closeness where women appear together, resting, touching, watching, waiting, or simply existing beside one another.
The series is interested in the ambiguity of women’s relationships: friendship, desire, care, love, tenderness, dependency, attraction, and chosen family. Rather than separating friendship from romance, or intimacy from sexuality, the works inhabit the space between these categories. They ask how women hold one another, how they create private worlds, and how affection can become a form of refuge, recognition, and resistance.
Through oil and acrylic paint, the figures appear sometimes solid, sometimes unfinished or partially dissolved into colour. Bodies overlap with furniture, plants, fabric, and light, suggesting that intimacy is not only emotional but spatial: it is built through shared rooms, gestures, habits, silences, and repeated acts of care. The paintings do not try to define womanhood as a fixed identity, but approach it as something felt through relation, embodiment, memory, and proximity.
At its core, the series is about the quiet power of women’s bonds: the forms of love that exist between friendship and romance, the softness of being witnessed, and the possibility of making a world with and through each other.
