Linocut on paper
Belgium, London
This linocut series explores the representation of women throughout history, tracing how female bodies have been idealised, mythologised, controlled, eroticised, and fragmented across visual culture. Drawing from historical imagery, mythology, art history, and bodily symbols, the work reflects on how women have often been represented through external gazes rather than through their own subjectivity.
The repetition of the linocut process becomes a way of questioning inherited images: each print repeats, distorts, simplifies, and reactivates forms that have circulated across time. Bodies, faces, gestures, and symbolic fragments appear as unstable signs, suggesting how femininity has been constructed through recurring visual codes. Rather than offering a single narrative of “womanhood,” the series presents female representation as layered, contested, and historically charged.
Through bold lines, repetition, and simplified forms, the project asks how images of women are made, reproduced, and remembered - and how they might be reclaimed, interrupted, or reimagined.
